Awkwafina was initially an American performer and rapper, making sly songs that addressed topics like racial or sexuality with a humorous twist. Before expanding to Hollywood, she could make a few songs. Nora Lum began her musical path as a trumpeter. Her birthplace was Forest Hills Queens, she was a child of Chinese immigrants as well as Korean immigrants. Her classical, jazz and hip-hop education began when she was in her teens.
